Q. Is this wood burning?
The answer is yes, it is the modern wood burner. The items that are engraved are done with a laser. We use a 60 watt laser that burns the image into the wood

Q. What type of wood do you use?
Depending on the product, we prefer to use hard woods like Oak, Hickory and Maple. They lend themselves best to adding to the art work. When we make a sign for display in the outdoor elements we prefer to make it out of poplar.

Q. I really like the Art Work on Wood items. How do you do it?
We start by making the wooden items from Oak, Maple, Hickory or other choice woods. We glue the rough boards so we have the general dimensions that we need. When we take them out of the clamps we sand them with a large drum sander and then put an edge on them with either a router or a shaper. The items are then given a finish sanding by hand and cleaned for spraying. Yes, spraying. We spray on a water base finish that is environmentally safe as well as not harmful for us to breath. We use a HVLP sprayer so we don’t have a lot of waste or overspray. After the products are sprayed with at least 3 coats, and sanded in between, they are then ready for the art work. We design the graphics in several different programs on the computer, which can take quite a bit of time. When we are ready to “burn” we send the saved file to the laser, place the item on the bed of the laser and let ‘er rip.

Q. Can the signs be put outside?
Our normal plaques are not made to take harsh sun, cold or rain. We would suggest that if you are going to place a plaque outside you custom order it. The price will be comparable but we will make it out of a wood that will stand the weather and put a finish on it that is weather resistant.

Q. How long does it take to make a plaque?
That is a rather hard question to answer. We have an average of 3 hours in each plaque before it even gets to the laser. Laser time depends on the size of the graphics and the amount of detail. For example, the plaque that we call “Nails” (AWW18-1) takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to “burn”. As for design time, well that can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 40 hours. It all depends on the size and the amount of detail.

Q. Do both of you work in the shop?
Absolutely! This is a partnership deal. We both use the saws, sanders, planer, routers and shapers. We also both spray, design and engrave with the laser.

Q. How did you get started?
We originally had a custom cabinet shop. That probably explains why some of our first plaques looked like cabinet doors. We also did some house remodeling and construction but that isn’t where the Lord wanted us. For some time we both wanted to do something that would allow us to display our faith and put to use some of our “God given talents”. We both work on Habitat around the country but we wanted something that we could get personal with. In the fall of 2003 we came across a demonstration of a laser and a CNC router. We looked at each other and said that’s it. From there we started to use our knowledge of wood working, knowledge of computers, imagination and faith.

Q. What is the biggest plaque that you can make?
The only limitations are the customer. Our laser has a bed that is capable of 18 inches by 25 inches. However, by using your imagination and the front and back door of the laser we can make just about any size. The largest plaque we have made to date is 36 inches by 48 inches of our own special “Nails” and we are very proud of it. Take a look at the pictures on the CUSTOM WORK page.

Q. What carrier do you use for shipping?
Depending on the item, we usually use US Mail or UPS. The rates are shown with each item and are based on weight.

Q. What if I want a special design with words that are very meaningful to me?
We pride ourselves in working very closely with our discerning customers that want something custom made to their own personal tastes. The only limitation we have is that we ask our customers to remember we are people of faith. We draw the line with vulgarity or demonic based requests. For more information take a peek at our CUSTOM WORK page.

Q. Can I get items personalized?
Yes you can. There is a nominal fee for the extra laser time. However, we think you will find it to be very reasonable. You can find out how to do this from the CUSTOM WORK page.

Q. Can we see your work in person?
Yes you can. If you look at our SCHEDULED EVENTS page you will see a listing of the Arts and Crafts shows and Festivals we are currently planning on attending this year.

G's Wood Refund and Return Policy

At G's Wood we always want our customers to be satisfied. Since a lot of our work is customized to meet your needs there shouldn't be many occasions for a refund or return. However, we do realize that the infrequent need makes it necessary to be prepared.

Damage
If, upon receipt of your shipment, you find damage you must contact the shipping company and make arrangements with them for reimbursement. You must have the original packaging as well as the item that was damaged. Please contact us so we may assist you.

Defects
We inspect each piece before it is shipped to make sure there are no defects. Since our products are made out of mostly wood, and since wood is not uniform in appearance, there are going to be some irregularities. However, if a defect is found in the product, please contact us. We will do our best to work with you to make sure you get a quality product.

Refunds
We do not offer refunds on our products. We want you to enjoy your purchase from us and if we have made an error we will correct it upon receipt of the original item. We will pay for shipping the original item back to us and for the corrected item to be sent back to you.

Returns
You will need to contact us prior to shipping anything back so we can assist you. We will give you a Return Authorization number and at that time you can ship the item back to us.
